Creating a New Project File

This page describes how to add a new file to a project.

Instructions

To add a new file to a project:

1. In the Project Explorer View, switch to the project you would like to add the file in.
2. Right-click on the view and select New > File to open the New File window.
3. On the New File window, specify the parent folder in the text box at the top of the screen.
4. In the File name text box, type the name of your new file. Be sure to add the proper extension, e.g. ".html", ".css", or ".js".
5. If you simply want an empty file, click the Finish button.
6. If you would like to choose from an existing template, click the Next button and select the template of your choice.

The file will be created and added to your project.

Reserved words

There are a number of projects names that are not allowed when creating a new project. The following words are used by the system and may not be used:

• contents
• resources
• plugins
• watch
• _codesignature
• embedded.mobileprovision
• info.plist
• pkginfo
• assets.car
• modules
• LaunchScreen.storyboardc
• hyperloop
